Major Depressive Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder

Bipolar is something that many people deal with on a day-to-day basis and the effects of bipolar disorder can tear a family apart.  Major Depressive Disorder is also referred to as manic-depressive illness, it is a mental health condition that can have a serious impact on not just the person with Depressive disorder but also their family.

The Effects of Bipolar Disorder Defined

The effects of bipolar disorder can be defined by dramatic shifts and mood swings.  The mood swings can go from very high streams of mania to very lows of depression.  These mood swings can actually be debilitating if they are left untreated.  Those that are suffering from bipolar disorder often refer to the highs as awesome and incredible, however the lows are nightmares.

The High Effect of Major Depressive Disorder

There are many common effects of bipolar disorder that you should watch out for.  High energy, decreased ability to focus or to pay attention, rapid speech, impaired judgement, euphoric mood, decreased need for sleep and finally unrealistic views.

The Low Effect of Major Depressive Disorder

Above, the high effect of bipolar disorder were outlined, here, the lows are going to be discussed.  The lows  for someone who suffers from Depressive disorder can include suicidal thoughts, extreme lack of energy, changes in sleep pattern, either too much or too little sleep, feeling of hopelessness and simple tasks like getting out of bed are a chore.   There is a lack of focus because of a lack of caring for the outside world.  Everything is more stressful and can be extremely emotional for someone with bipolar to be going through a low.

Behavioural Symptoms

Someone that has Depressive disorder can experience temper tantrums, will be annoyed easily, can become extremely frustrated very easily and overall be irritable for no reason what-so-ever.  Anxiety as well as panic are two things that set in a lot of the time in patients dealing with the effect of Depressive disorder.  These effects alone can cause strain for the family.

Other Effects of Bipolar Disorder

The effect of bipolar disorder can last for weeks at a time, whether it is the high or the low period it is something that can flip without hesitation and something that can last quite a while as well.  When the depressive episode comes on, the person will feel like they are in a cloud and this can affect their judgement as well.  When they are on the high level, the person truly feels as if they can do anything, however the smallest thing in the world can send them on a slide right back down to the depressive state.  This is what is so scary about the effect of bipolar disorder, the smallest detail can change a bipolar victim’s mood drastically.

Diagnosing the Effect of Depressive Disorder

There are many ways that you can diagnose Major Depressive Disorder, however most doctors use a DSM or Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder as their guidelines.  Diagnosing the effect of bipolar disorder can be difficult and it is not always telling when the patient has mood swings, however that is the first sign.
